Thank you for pointing out how stupid, nonsensical, and illogical that poll question actually is. It seems like he wanted to get himself cancelled or something because there is no way to conclude what any person actually feels based on that poll.
Our paper [Gannett/USAToday syndicate] dropped him. I have old Dilbert collections, very sad as they are funny. Cancelling assholes is one thing, cancelling racists another.
He's proof, if anyone needed more proof, that just because you're a creative person who can establish a career doesn't mean ALL your ideas are good ones.
20ish years ago, Adams wrote a book wherein he mentioned that after Dilbert became popular people started emailing him their own crazy work stories, to the point where he said he didn't have to write anything anymore and just used the stories he was being sent every day. Also in the book he discussed having some form of aphasia and leading what sounded like a pretty lonely, isolated life with just himself and his two cats, to the point where he seemed to be semi-seriously anthropomorphizing his Mr. Coffee machine.
I think that combination of being so incredibly isolated and alone and spending his days drawing cartoons for other people's work stories (i.e., not even having a full creative outlet anymore) might have played some role in his complete breakdown as a human being over the intervening years.
It motivates the question: Is it OK to be hetero-normative? Some days I wonder, what with all of those str8 people doing crazy stuff. And people that go to White Castle-- can they be black and still have dignity? Then there's the craziness of "Classical Music" which is an unsuspected dog whistle for "Euro White Classical Music Origin" yet people blurt it out all the time not suspecting their colonial originalist attitude caused them to spew that stuff. Yes, there is great Indigenous and Middle Eastern and Chinese and Han, Sub-Saharan and other forms of African Classical Music. There's even Irish Classical Music.
I shrug, but Scott is a proctological orifice, anyway.
When using a Sharpie, it is best to insure adequate ventilation ... all of us in art & design know this. I believe it is the culprit in this case. It does not excuse his behavior. RIP Scott’s brain.
When I read his remarks earlier this week I hoped he was being sarcastic. But the more I read I could find no evidence of it. As I read his statements, I just shook my head from his willful stupidity. He made no sense! I hadn't seen Dilbert in a while, but I know I won't ever be seeing him again.
Do not follow Scott Adams, so did not know any of this, but thank you for informing me. Shocking to learn, and glad he is facing repercussions. Used to like reading Dilbert, but haven't in a long time. What a divisive ignoramus Adams is!
I was going to comment that the question "Is it okay to be White?" is seriously moronic and not just meaningless but anti-meaningful (sucks meaning from the universe), but you beat me to it.
My other observation is: the dividing line between courageous provocateur and septic asshole is not always a clear one. In this case though, Scott A. has rendered it limpid.

I'm going to choose to believe that everyone who responded that it wasn't okay to be white is a dermatological oncologist.

INSIDIOUS, not "insideous"
Done.
Clearly the fumes from Adams' drawing media have caused cumulative brain damage.

Yeah, that is EXACTLY what I thought when I read that dozens of newspapers were no longer going to run Dilbert. « Gene has done it again. «
Is it okay to be White ?
Is a question to demean,
What the question should really be,
Is it okay to be Greene ?

Reminds me of a Sniglet: ignoranus, to be stupid and an asshole at the same time. Seems perfect ...

Couldn't happen to a better person. FAFO.
Thank you.
