A couple of good reads by people who realize the gravity of the situation. I'm going down to the Department of Labor at 3pm for a protest of the DOGE douchebags who are supposedly going there at 4pm. Mother of God, what have we done? And by "we" I mean the fuckers who voted this tyrant into office AGAIN.

Jamelle Bouie is the most historically informed regular contributor to the NYT op-eds. When he says, "Somewhere, King Charles I is jealous", he hits the nail on the head. For those to whom Charles I's name isn't immediately familiar, he's the one who tried to rule without Parliament, fueling the English Civil War, and lost his head. I hope we don't need to go to such lengths, but it certainly cannot be excluded: if your vote and your protests mean nothing, what do you do? I also think of Augustus, who turned the (admittedly chaotic) Roman Republic into the Roman Empire by leaving all the offices functioning, except that no one dared do anything without Augustus' approval--that seems to be Trump's strategy, whereas Musk's is parallel to Hitler's, where Musk is Hitler, and Trump is Hindenburg, the President who appointed Hitler. God save the Constitution!

How do you find out about protests or are you doing it on your own? Let me know because besides donating to every organization that is suing the feds, I don’t know what else to do.

I believe that the DOGEbags will arrive in their Swastikars. It will definitely be on brand for them.

So "America First" was so um...last week eh?

Here's an idea Demento. Have Elmo just buy Gaza for you. I mean, he bought you a country, what's a mere territory? Maybe rent Jordan too, while he's at it. Imagine all those wonderfully exciting "Infrastructure Weeks" you can have again.

No surprise. More of the same old, same old from Demento. Could have had one of his big bucks enablers quietly pay off Stormy Daniels, but no --- had to enter into a cockamamie scheme with his fingerprints all over it. Could have defrauded NYS at the same level as the rest of his real estate brethren but no --- had to do it more and blatantly and put himself on the hook for half a billion bucks. Always the same grand, hollow and usually self-harming gestures. Proud of me yet Fred? Roy?

At least the Canadian media are calling it like it (he...) is:

In Katharine Graham’s autobiography she says that when she was deploring that she and her husband, Phil Graham (who was about to go into the military), had to live in a world with Hitler, he responded, “I don’t know. Maybe it’s a privilege to have to fight the biggest son of a bitch in history.”

What is the protocol for re-sharing this? I really want to post it on a different social media site, but I neither want to take "credit" nor expose our weird little tribe & your name where you (Or Gene?) haven't signed off.

You can copy and paste the text into a new post. The only person who needs credit is Katharine Graham (it’s from p. 137 of her book). Thank you.

I believe it was several years ago when Jared was talking with someone over there about the possibility of turning Gaza into another Mediterranean resort area. This is not a new idea.

At that whateveritwas with Netanyahoo (typo intended) Demento said that he had “left instructions” for Iran to be “obliterated” if its assassins killed him. Wonder if those instructions included a national holiday?

I had been calling them Musk RATS (I’ll leave it up to your imagination what the RATS acronym stands for) but DOGE bags is better. Wouldn’t want to impugn the honor of actual muskrats.

From Heather Cox Richardson this AM, on the "improbability" that Elon Musk will recognize conflicts of interest in his actions as he tramples through the government and remove himself from those situations: "Donald Kettl, a scholar of public policy, told Dana Hull of Bloomberg: “I don’t know of any other case, anywhere, in which an individual could determine for himself whether he had a conflict of interest. In fact, self-determination of a conflict of interest is itself a conflict of interest.”

Have Heather and Donald Kettl not been introduced to Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia, or Justice Roberts? How about Donald Trump?

Another question for a Poll perhaps: How many people think that Elon Musk already has a presidential pardon in his pocket which gives him immunity from prosecution should anyone ever try to hold him accountable to the law?

If you want to do something, subscribe to Chop Wood, Carry Water on Substack. She provides simple, daily things to do. Protests don't help, signing online petitions doesn't help, sending emails doesn't help. It's those phone calls to representatives' offices that get their attention. One staffer said that, in the past, the Rep/Dem ratio of calls to their office was 4-1, and if it was an issue like gun control or funding for Planned Parenthood, the ratio was 11-1. Make your wishes known!

Trump has persistent and clear dementia but the media refuses to call it as such. The man should be in a memory care facility, not running a country.
