I, for one, was rooting for them the whole time. Did anyone else want them to figure out they could run at it from the other direction and mount it like a pommel horse? Just me, eh?
If DeMille had shot this it'd be three hours long and filled with thousands of costumed extras.
Reminds me of the old ('63) slapstick British TV sketch "Dinner for One," the viewing of which has unaccountably become a German New Year's Eve tradition since the early '70s. It also now regularly shows up then on TV elsewhere in Europe and is available on streaming platforms. Understandable, I suppose, since no translation is necessary. Here's a link to it:
Even though Freddie Frinton’s performance is nearly identical (with _almost_ all of the same gags), that link was _not_ the same version that is normally shown on German TV on New Year’s Eve. The camera angles were not as good in this version, but I still liked it better, because the studio audience behaved better. In the version that was reshot for NDR, there were a couple of people in the studio audience who shrieked so often and loudly that it becomes really annoying.
This was ridiculous and I initially thought it was staged. But it went on far too long for that. There is a directorial rule I have observed that when building tension, things ALMOST happen twice, and then they do happen the third time. There’s a rhythm to it that this lacks, and so I think it would have played out differently if planned.
But thank you. I’m glad I didn’t live my whole life and then die without having seen it.
We replaced our television some weeks ago and have been using its links to watch older shows, including a run of Gunsmoke (which we also listen to every Sunday night with Murray) and I have been watching how they get on a horse in one move. Dillon uses his arms for the last bit, in my opinion. The drunks did not have a chance. No arm coordination.
Mack Sennett, not Cecil B. DeMIlle.
Nah, Sennett was too slapstick. This piece has some serious angst and pathos.
Beat me to it.

"You can lead a drunk to a horse, but you can't make him think."

The only good clips my home security cameras catch are of wild turkeys and hawks. I should get a horse statue. And invite drunks.
Are you volunteering to host a Gene Pool get-together?
You bringing the horse statue?

One of my all-time favorites.
ok, that was worth the price of admission
Too long. In a movie, this would have reached the conclusion about 20 seconds earlier.

Johnny Dollar
" ... and $1.50 for cab fare."
"Remarks: Life is a coin with tragedy on one side and comedy on the other. If it comes up heads more than tails, consider yourself lucky."
"Yours truly, Johnny Dollar."
Shows the danger of smoking.
All I can think of is how much they will hurt tomorrow.
I get the stupidity; I don’t get the humor. My bad.
Agree, the act itself is stupid, but the determination --- and the calculation that goes into each failed attempt --- is what's funny.
Pretty good, but the next video I got from YouTube had a better title: " Glitter Dust 4k Sparkling Particles Overlay Free Footage Dust Video"
Dumb is dumb and I don’t mean just the drunk. I mean the video too.
Break a leg!
Are you addressing the drunks or the unfortunate horse?
Happy New Year!
