Although I think it's unlikely that Trump made the call it's something he would do and when he hears about it, he'll wish he had, which might spur him to do so in the future. I haven't listened to the recording and I'm not going to, for the same reason I'm not going to watch the State of the Union -- I can't stand the sound of his voice.

It's a bit bizarre to opine that it's probably not Trump if you didn't listen. I did. It was Trump. QED

I don't think it was him. It sounded a bit like him, but also sounded like someone was using a voice synthesizer to sound that way. Very unnatural and odd, at least IMO.

I ended up listening to it, and I agree. It wasn't him.

I haven't watched a state of the union speech for many years. They are boring, say little of substance and last too long. Trump only magnifies these problems.

I watched regularly when I still lived in DC because it was the prime topic of conversation the following morning in lobby-land. But what made it tolerable was SOTU bingo.

But the Democrats might have those little sign paddles, like the kind that Wyle E. Coyote holds up that say, "Ouch" just before the rock hits him.

The C-Span call sounded like the voice of a younger man doing a good impersonation of a younger, but just as broken and stupid, Trump.

It's unbearable even to hate-watch a Trump speech. I will not be watching his State of the "Union," Such As It Is, address.

The doc is right, the destruction of The Washington Post is emblematic of the danger we face as a country. It shows the enormous power of billions of dollars in the hands of unethical would-be oligarchs greedy for more billions. Anyone who can afford to blow 40 billion for Xitter and not miss it, or 40 million to make a movie to stroke the Trumps for bigger rewards to come, is a danger to all our democratic institutions.

I was listening to Depeche Mode this morning and it struck me that their lyrics from 40+ years ago certainly apply today, “The grabbing hands grab all they can, all for themselves after all.”

There are professionals who will be monetarily compensated for listening to the SOTU and summarizing it for us. Nobody’s offering to pay me anything to suffer that torture.

I'll tune in to hear Governor Spanberger.

Students at my kid’s high school planned an ICE protest walkout. The school’s response? They told everybody it was going to happen and when, told everybody to stay non-violent and safe, and told the kids that if they wanted to participate, be aware that it would be marked as an unexcused absence and they’d have to make up any missing work. That’s it.

I’ll wait for the SOTU address to be filtered through the eyes of comedians (Daily Show, Colbert, Kimmel) who I hope can translate it into basic English.

Colbert's show will be live, following the speech. I can't wait.

I'm hoping that Alexandra Petri will cover it, may the Lord have mercy on her ...

She did, beautifully as usual, in The Atlantic

I'm sure it wasn't Trump on that call because I didn't have my usual visceral reaction. Also, he didn't sound as nuts as the real one.

Your doctor's comments are spot on. As for the SOTU, nope. We know the state of the union and it's the opposite of what the creep will say in his spewing of excrement.

I haven’t watched a State of the Union by a RepubliKKKan since Reagan stood there spouting lie after lie, to the fawning praise of his fellow GOP’ers. Simply can’t stomach it.

I don’t plan on watching SOTU. I understand that some members of Congress are bringing Epstein survivors as guests. If that happens and there are enough that trump can see, it might be interesting to see how trump handles it. If he goes off the rails and had to be removed that would be watch worthy. It won’t happen, but it would make SOTU memorable!!

He won't recognize them. Didn't he think a picture of Carroll was a picture of his ex-wife?

Carol McDonald's avatar

Probably not, but omg, it would be fun to see!!

I will not be watching the Sad State of the Union Drivel being expelled from the anus of a babbling loon, but I will be looking for the pieces of turds he left the following day, to summarize it. I'm so hoping he spits on a couple of the Supremely Corrupt Court Justices. That would be so on brand.

I kinda doubt he'd call CNN to rant, but it's really funny they took the call on air! If they screened it, they had to know the "John Barron" joke, no???

BigDaddy52's avatar

Nope. Some youngster or intern screening calls. Wasn't old enough to know.

I have not watched the SOTU in ages.

The “pause for applause” moments. The selective presentation of data.

The report could be sent in an email.

Sasquatch's avatar

Congressional Democrats need to use those pauses to bounce on Whoopee Cushions.

Your neurologist is right. Trump is a true shanda for America. He represents every negative stereotype about America that one can think of.

Thing is, I've heard Demento's Grate of the Union speech for the last nine years. "Yada yada me," Blah blah lyin' Democrats," Yada yada witch hunt." Rinse and repeat.

And, the 2020 election was stolen. Constant grievance.
