Almost lost in the swirling toilet of recent news generated by Donald Trump and his buttlicking minions was news out of Texas that was so weird and stupid that it beggars belief and defies coherent analysis.
As another heel-click, Louisiana Governor Landry killed the Gulf Coast restoration program this week. Because he would rather his state melt away into the Gulf of Mexico than accept federal money that was approved by Congress during a non-Trump administration
"Expressive activity includes “any speech or expressive conduct” protected by the First Amendment or Texas Constitution."
can someone explain to me how they can forbid something they say is protected by the First Amendment? Double speak? Or as my daughter would say "bat s--t crazy"
I went to Cornell and a friend of mine went to Buffalo State U. We both got the impression that half the students at our schools were NY City/Long Island Jews so I don't think there's a lot of antisemitism in New York colleges. Of course since half the population in New York state lives in the NYC area it's not surprising they make up half the population in NY state colleges. (I was at the Ag/Life Sciences state college part of Cornell)
My impulse would be to carry on conversations anyway, with as many friends as possible, and dare the shits to arrest all of us. Then sue the snot out of them. Did somebody repeal the First Amendment?
Gosh Mr W, you have given people so many reasons to detest you over the years (your wardrobe, your toilet habits, your petty aggressions) that it's hard to narrow down to just one aspect. But I'm proud to be paying the small monthly price of keeping you around.
I predict Starbuck's stock will soar. So will the profits of any restaurants that serve alcohol, and of course bars. Independent coffeehouses, too. Nothing prevents demonstrations off campus, either. Idiots.
Use the magic sketchpads like we had when I was a kid. The ones where you write on the surface, then lift the top sheet and your writing disappears. We used those in the US Embassy in Moscow after the Soviets bugged the embassy. (Not me personally but the people who were there.)
That’s true about Moscow, until they built a SCIF. But writing everything is TIRESOME. Cleaning the bathrooms, usually done by locals who were also banned, was the real penalty.
I know I shouldn't but I continue to be amazed that the idea these clowns claim colleges and universities allow antisemitism while so many of them (and their supporters) spout antisemitic language and beliefs, daily.
I attended the University of Rochester in the 1960's. It had about 80% of its students from the State of New York, and about 1/2 of them were Jewish. The reason for that breakdown was it was a very popular safety school for kids who were applying to the Ivy League. Just as now, when Asian students threaten to take a majority of the spots at the top schools, Jewish students were in that position, resulting in some of the the overflow ending up at Rochester. The campus was peaceable, everyone got along fine, and we all opposed the Vietnam War. It saddens me that world events in the past 50 years have resulted in a less peaceful situation on campuses, but in general I don't think there's a problem with American young people, then or now.
And don't forget that if any of that sex is recorded and placed on the Internet, no one in Texas will be allowed to view it without giving personally identifiable information (PII in government-speak).
what, no interpretive dance?
Protesting the Israeli government is not antisemitic. Some of the protestors are.
You're right. Forgot about this, although I'm sure I was outraged at the time.
I remember lots of drugs, sex, and rock-'n'-roll in college.
Talking? Why?
I don’t think antisemitism is rampant at universities. I do think it’s rampant among maga.

Joseph, your referral to the Gulf of Mexico is soon to be a federal offense punishable by deportation to Liberia where you don't speak the language.
Governor Abbott will probably have me detained by then already. I am a resident Texan and keep voting against him, Ted Cruz and such

Was a “No” vote to the third question to be interpreted as “No, I hate you for some other reason or reasons.”?
If one felt that way, then yes! That would be the appropriate answer.

Love their Ag programs! And their apples! 🍏
Does the phrase, “Wow! This is some good shit.” count as political speech.?

Don't forget the curry.
Why not pass notepads around instead of talking?

Notepads would be a violation. This allegedly includes written communication.

I thought they had to install a mobile SCIF somewhere on the compound. Everything was compromised as I heard it.
Would it be permissible to make funny faces and rude gestures? What about making speeches in American Sign Language?
(7) Transfer to the University of Oklahoma. Oh wait. That's in Oklahoma, right?
