We have a 13 y.o. Golden Retriever who loves me to bits. I am her human. I am still a cat person. I am sympatico with cats, whereas the neediness of dogs is overwhelming for me. I am allergic to all things hairy (cats, dogs, horses, sheep, and OH MY GOD pet rats). I might be allergic to hamsters, I'm not sure. But Pumpkin loves me and I love her and she wants her head skritched, which means I need to be aware perpetually of which hand currently is covered with her allergens. I will miss her when the inevitable happens. But I checked "Cats" anyway.

Jean Harris, Tarnower's lover and killer, refused to allow her defense attorneys use the diet pill psychosis defense because it might cast Herman, who had prescribed them for her, in an unfavorable public light. Loyalty at an extreme.

I relate to a dogs unease. I'd be too if someone took me to a doctor, and I was equally unaware of why I was there. Then I was prodded and poked, a thermometer put up my butt, and given a shot ... i would not be happy when I went there a second time.

Find another doctor! NO REAL DOCTORS DO THAT ANYMORE.

I refuse to participate in todays poll. You need a choice for Dogs AND Cats!

gene weingarten's avatar

And everyone would safely choose that and the poll would be good for nothing. C'mon, people.

Go figure. My Jack-the-lads (as in Jack Russells) love their vet tech to bits --- have to drag them away from her despite the probing and sticking. Only time they're ever on their best behavior. Are smart enough to have clearly faked their way through obedience school.

Do we have the same dog? Newman - brindle pit mix, 55 lbs - has to be more stoned than I was in all of 1968 to go to the vet, and be muzzled, and be taken to a special room to avoid other animals. Three hundred milligrams of gabapentin the night before; 300 more the morning of, plus 200 mg trazadone each time. He loves humans. LOVES humans (hates other dogs). But any human encountered at the vet is somehow suspect and menacing. Go figure.

Lexi's meds were identical, but about 50% higher dosage because she weighs 75 pounds.

I refused to vote. Dogs? Cats? Both!!!

I have a dog like yours. She and I hold the record for the longest visit to the vet, as the vet kept giving her drugs to knock her out, abd she and I would be still for 25 minutes or so. Her paws would flop when I lifted them, her eyes were rolled back. A tech or the vet would creep in and it was suddenly. Hysterical, threatening barking and strategic retreats. More sedation while I held her head ( muzzled) and. Her front (thus is not a small dog). This happened three times before she was sedated enough to draw blood, give shots and clip claws.

So, 172, but now how tall?

As a social worker with 25 years of working with older adults, I implore you to get handrails on all the front steps. Trust me: I’m old too. Falls can easily become catastrophic

Amen. I was praying when you walked down the second set of steps. It's a lot easier to get the railings instead of falling down, healing up (maybe) and then getting the railings. Also bear in mind you'd probably be falling head first onto pavement, not the most forgiving of materials.

Impossible to choose…love them both…so much ❣️❣️❣️

I am allergic to cats but I love everything about them 🎯❣️ I miss mine terribly 💔. It’s been years and I am still pining for the fjords 🐾 🐾 🐾 🐾. I am incredibly blessed by having the world’s best dogs (6) in my life❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ Truly blessed am I !!!

Recall (more or less) being similarly helped several times into the back seat of vehicles like Lexi --- although because of different intoxicants. Also my anal glands repeatedly express themselves --- especially after large helpings of salsa and refried beans.

I do not like the dog vs cat question because I love them both. I don't know how I would choose if I were forced to pick one or the other. I love dogs in all of their glorious dogginess and I love cats for their catitude and cattiness (also the purring). I'm a horse person too and adore horses.

Yes, I noticed that Grandpa and Lexi are a bit zaftig. I also noticed how slender Gene looks. Congratulations! I had a fat cat and know how hard it is to get weight off a cat, but you should be able to get the weight off Lexi. It would be healthier for her.

Thank goodness my cats get catatonic at the vets, never had a screaming meamie.
